Panel | Taking the Pledge to Improve Organizational Health Literacy

Moderator: Melanie Stone, DrPH, MPH, MEd, UT Health San Antonio, Health Confianza

As part of Health Confianza’s strategy to address the organizational level of health literacy systems change, we developed an innovative pledge program. A total of 10 San Antonio organizations, representing a mix of clinical and social services, applied and were accepted to the pilot cohort. Join us for an engaging discussion of their experience conducting a self-assessment of their health literacy practices followed by participation in an 8-month learning collaborative that provided support to plan and make changes. Sharing successes and lessons learned can encourage more area organizations to take the pledge to improve health literacy and ultimately increase health equity for our community members

Panel | Community Voices on Health Equity

Moderator: Sharon Carothers, MPH, MSW, SensisHealth

The purpose of this panel is to bring a diversity of voices and perspectives from our San Antonio community together to discuss health equity. A diverse panel of health professionals serving San Antonio’s marginalized populations will develop a common definition of health equity, describe strategies for engaging community in health equity programs, and identify goals and outcomes for health equity programs.
